Summary:
This capstone project aims to simulate and analyze different scenarios in yard operations using agent-based simulation techniques. The primary objective is to understand the current layout and performance of a facility’s truck yard, with a focus on improving processing times, and to test additional scenarios for potential layout or flow enhancements. Early findings reveal an average truck arrival rate of 10 per hour, with peak hours between 9am and 4pm. Pre-docking times vary significantly: 50% of live load trailers take less than 20 minutes (95% under 100 minutes), while pre-load trailers have a 95th percentile of 3 days. Loading times for both truck types average 57 minutes, with 95% completed within 110 minutes.
